Launching Phase Two

After our initial launch in April, we’re excited to announce the second phase of Everwinter’s rollout. This includes the full release of the official lore, a major expansion of Story HUD features, a new Character Dashboard, and the introduction of new classes and subclasses to add new layers to character progression.

We’re also focused on recruiting player-run factions and player-run businesses to help us build the community for the next chapter.

Community Guidelines

  • Respect and Inclusivity: Uphold a community where all participants feel safe and valued. Harassment or actions that diminish others’ enjoyment are strictly prohibited.
  • Firearms and Weaponry: Possession and use of firearms are privileges earned through demonstrated role-play commitment and adherence to community standards. Eligibility is tracked via your Everwinter Story HUD.
  • Character Limitations: Non-human avatars are limited to domestic animals (e.g., cats, dogs) and may be subject to in-character consequences. Furry avatars are considered humans in costume and are welcome as explore OOC.
  • Vehicle Usage: Operating vehicles requires a paid permit and is subject to availability. Please consult in-world resources for more information.
  • Group Affiliations and Roles: Group memberships and role titles are exclusive to approved factions that have undergone proposal and peer review by community leaders.

Understanding In-Character (IC) vs. Out-of-Character (OOC)

  • In-Character (IC): Refers to the actions, thoughts, and experiences of your character within the story.
  • Out-of-Character (OOC): Pertains to the real-life player behind the character. To communicate OOC during role-play, use double parentheses.Example: ((Need a quick break, be right back!))

Character Classes in Everwinter

Your journey through Everwinter begins with choosing a character class that defines your background, abilities, and role within the frozen metropolis.

  • The Runner – The City’s pulse, navigating its neon-lit corridors and backstreets as a courier, smuggler, or informant. Bonus: Wider NPC networks for jobs and intel.
  • The Vaulted – Spires-born elite, raised among corporate power struggles and political intrigue. Bonus: Faster cash flow and access to cutting-edge gear.
  • The Outlander – Hardened survivors from beyond the walls, resilient against the wasteland’s horrors. Bonus: Enhanced resilience to radiation and cold.
  • The Synthetic – Living machines built for purpose, their true origins unknown. (NPC-only for now—watch the shadows.)

Your choice will shape your interactions, opportunities, and the way Everwinter responds to you. Who will you become?

Role-Playing Etiquette

  • Using the /me Emote Command: The /me command allows you to describe your character’s actions in a way that immerses others in the role-play. Proper use of this feature enhances storytelling and interaction.Example: /me exhales a breath of mist into the cold air, adjusting his tattered coat against the chill.
    • Action-Based Roleplay: Use /me to describe physical actions, expressions, or subtle details that contribute to the scene.
    • Dialogue Integration: Combine /me with spoken words for a natural flow.Example: /me leans against the bar, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "You looking for trouble, or just passing through?"
    • Avoiding Assumed Actions: Do not dictate another character’s reactions or responses in your /me emote.Poor Example: /me grabs the stranger’s arm, making them drop their weapon.Improved Example: /me lunges forward, aiming to snatch the stranger’s arm in a firm grip.
  • Avoiding Powergaming: Powergaming involves creating unfair advantages for your character, such as consistently dodging attacks or dictating outcomes for others. Ensure that your actions allow for interactive and dynamic storytelling.Poor Example: /me dodges every attack effortlessly and incapacitates the opponent instantly.Improved Example: /me attempts to sidestep the incoming blow, feeling the rush of air as it narrowly misses, then swings a fist toward the assailant's midsection.
  • Avoiding Metagaming: Metagaming is the use of information acquired OOC to influence IC actions. For instance, having your character know another’s name without prior introduction within the role-play is considered metagaming and is discouraged.

Consent and Personal Limits

For scenes that may impose long-term consequences on a character, it is courteous and recommended to consult with the player beforehand. If you encounter discomfort during a scene, communicate openly with fellow players to find a resolution, such as a “fade-to-black” approach or devising an escape scenario.

Establishing personal limits is acceptable; however, they should not provide an unfair advantage. For example, if your character is in a situation with a gun to their head, the victim must yield reasonably instead of relying on a “no death” limit to force their opponent into a no-win situation.
